The family has always said this was 1/14/1921. The Philadelphia Birth Certificate has 1/13/21 (although mistakenly has Father as Charles), as does the record of the Swarthmore meeting from 1921. It seems possible that the family "nudged" the birthday to Jan 14 to coincide with Bliss Sr. or to avoid the unlucky 13th. Baltimore monthly meeting (1942, Hollingsworth secretary), certified the birth as being on the 14th for purposes of entering the Army. |
